If you would tell me that someone had cured their cancer by standing on their head each day, I probably would try it! That being said I have always been pretty open minded to alternative health and wellness. Going back to that first book that I read when I was diagnosed it had a common theme of many of the people that went into remission used a healing method call Reiki. This has origins from Japan and has been used for centuries. I will link a few informational articles below if you are interested.
I started off on the journey with a google search………….. of course I did because I google everything! A few places came up but I was struck by a location that was literally 2 miles from my house in Brimfield. The location is called Shine and it is owned by a wonderful person named Cortney. I decided she was who I was going to go to first and give this a try. I was stuck in a waiting period of getting into the oncologist and not filling up my schedule so I stalked her site and appointments for a few weeks until I new I had a better plan. Even though I did not know as much as I needed to I took a leap of faith and gave this a openminded try!
I went to that first appointment dragging Dave behind me, who at this point had no idea what he was getting into. We have had a lot of “for better or worse” moments in the last 4 months and he has proven to me time and time again that I am not alone in this fight. A friend told him when news first broke of my diagnosis, that he wanted to remind him that we both had cancer and for better or worse it was the hand we were delt. Dave has held those cards and the support that I feel is unmeasurable.
After my first session with Cortney I felt remarkably better physically and emotionally. Its hard to describe but Dave could tell that this had a great impact on me and it was definitely something that we were going to explore. Cortney even suggested that one of us start the training to become certified in Reiki. In the long run it would help with the cost and give me opportunities to receive the treatment more. So in true Dave Moore fashion he signed up and was on a new journey that he never expected to be on! Dave gave up a lot for me when I was diagnosed. He quit a part time chiefs job that he loved, he changed his retirement date which was supposed to be in May and has made countless sacrifices to help me get better. I will let him tell you more on his reiki journey but I hope that this is one positive that he has received out of a crappy situation!
You do not have to be as ill as I am to benefit from Reiki. Before I got sick I knew I was to the point in life where I needed to internally calm myself down. There are so many things that pull at us in this busy world we live in. If you are an overthinker like I am here is your reminder to take a deep breath and clear your mind. You don’t have to be perfect at it and it is very hard so you have to give yourself the grace to know that it will take time. Shine offers many other classes and options to help us heal and be well so if you are in the area take a look and give something new a try! Here is their website Shineakron.com.
I could go on and on but hopefully you take this as something new to explore and even if its not the right thing for you be open minded about others in your like who may need something like this we help themselves.
